Curriculum and Resources for “Comfort Women” EducationA Teacher's Guide with lesson plan applies the formation of the “comfort women” system and its impact on all women into the California History/Social Science framework. The full lesson includes two sessions. The first provides the necessary context of Japanese imperialism as a foundational background to the “comfort women” experience during World War II. The second session demonstrates how this historical issue has a deep global impact; and what the “comfort women” institution, as a military strategy, can teach us about issues of sexual violence and sex trafficking that are still going on today. Developed by Korean American Forum of California (KAFC) and ‘Comfort Women’ Justice Coalition (CWJC). Study Guide For Teachers - Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking, a Feature-length Documentary FilmAn online resource published by BC ALPHA, 2008. Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking is a sophisticated and powerful film that deals with difficult subject matter. For this reason, it is most appropriate for use at the senior secondary level (Grades 10‐12) – a level at which curriculum connections can be readily established. In British Columbia, for example, these topics figure prominently in the provincially prescribed curriculum for History 12 (2006) and Social Justice 12 (2008). In Ontario, they figure prominently in the provincially prescribed curriculum for various courses in Canadian and World Studies Grades 10 to 12 (2005). Comparable curricula from other provinces also include these topics, and can be addressed by this study guide. Download (365 kb) | |
